TaskQoS provides the complete traffic management solution, with high technical standards and inflexible persistence in performance which results in without equal capacity the ability to control a vast amount of traffic and applications. This provides outstanding performance compared to other QoS equipments and solutions.

What is Quality of Service (QoS)

QoS is providing a guarantee of bandwidth in the network for use by applications
The goal of QoS is to provide guarantees on the ability of a network to deliver predictable results. Example updating your web profile to your computer with guarantee or assuring a typical business process like saving a critical file from a local workstation to the server. On the Internet and in other networks (LAN, WAN), QoS (Quality of Service) is the suggestion that transmission rates, error rates, and other characteristics can be measured, improved, and, to some extent, guaranteed or assured in advance.

IP Network Difficulty

In layman’s term try to picture a usual business that needs to hook up or connect to their head office for a mission-critical business process like a financial application, but the performance is very slow due to unnecessary local user web browsing or downloading a song in Mp3 format. Another scenario picture a user is running a P2P application like napster (http://www.napster.com/) and his buddy complains because web browsing has suddenly becomes incorrectly slow due to the unreliable connection.

A modern way to answer the serious traffic problem is to increase network bandwidth (WAN pipe). On the other hand, this is only a short-term or temporary solution and becomes unreasonable due to the fact that we have to increase bandwidth pipe whenever we confront heavy traffic.

Because of too much internet usage and traffic, Transfer Control Protocol Over Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networks experiences bottlenecks and clogging which causes weakening that does not guarantee the stable service for mission-critical business processes. Imagine an emergency room in a hospital and compare it with a typical post office that uses a first in first out strategy or queuing method which is not an ideal strategy in managing an emergency room. A person in a critical state requires urgent attention disregarding their time of arrival, for instance 12 people all show up at the same time and the available resource is limited to three people only. In this case you need to sort out the queue into classes like urgent, critical, non-urgent, non-critical and can-wait. Then you service the queue based on the priority of the different classes.

Successful Total Network Management is possible.

QoS solution gives priority and sets the minimum and maximum bandwidth according to importan traffic. With this unique method, the controlling of both critical business-related traffic and non important web-related traffic can be easily managed and guarantees stable network environment.

TaskQoS is the answer, a traffic management solution that enables bandwidth management according to priority level by direct traffic control. This ensures more effective policy-based network operation and economical network management.

TaskQoS 3 Steps

The traffic and bandwidth management of TaskQoS is operated by three steps, it’s a cycle to effectively fulfil accurate network analysis and statistics needed for policy-based network operation, easy and rapid QoS policy setup and a feedback process.

Network analysis

Diagnose the traffic-related problems in network operation and provide the standard data for initial QoS policy setup by tracing and analyzing specified server, user, and application causing traffic through the monitoring of the whole traffic for a given period after initial Task QoS installation

  1. QoS policy setup
Specify the class by sorting the application traffic being used in network based on network analysis result and configure the filter to effectively control the traffic flow. Decide the priority of designated class and set up the QoS management policy as well as minimum and maximum bandwidth, and construct intelligent network by applying different policies per time and day if necessary.

  2. QoS policy analysis
Analyze the result of applied QoS policy by real-time or specified period and create the reports of diverse forms for user's sake of convenience by fulfilling statistical analysis for each QoS policy and traffic per class. Configure a new QoS policy based on the analysed result and operate more efficient network through re-analyzed feedback process. Accumulated data through above process could be used as valuable data that enable the comparison of network operation status and the forecast of network operation and investment for the future.

Applied Technology

  • PA (Per Application) Queuing algorithm
PA Queuing algorithm makes uniform processing of logical Flow Group(Application) possible from within the single internal queue, whereas the existing PF(Per Flow) method has a difficulty fairy controlling any queue that generates application over-flow to less-flow application queue
  • HDRR (Hierarchical Deficit Round Robin) Scheduling algorithm
HDRR Scheduling algorithm, based from DDR method, evolved hierarchical cycling method to accommodate high-speed bandwidth fixation & compensation
  • MAC Address change technology
A means to distribute transparent bandwidth through changing Mac address has a feature of ensuring distribution through changing information on headers of packet data
So, it is possible to do distribution treatment without any inconvenience of replacing gateway or changing information on terminals within local network.

In addition, In case of breakdown in TaskQoS, it is possible to avoid any damage to network caused by the defect of the system to bypass packet data transmitted from local network to the existing gateway. This operation also functions when power is off. The change of Mac address can ensure the stability of network under any circumstances.

QoS & Network

  • Traffic classification
Drill Down analysis method supports network analysis per time, user, application, and protocol. Analysis result could be understood at a glance only by several mouse clicks.

  • Traffic management per application
Mission-critical application could be reliably operated by setting QoS according the priority of application.
  • Access control
Manages the access authority of desired network traffic using 'Accept' and 'Deny' functions of QoS, and cuts off access from specified IP, use of specified application and connection to harmful sites.

Dynamic bandwidth compensation – When the traffic of specified class is requesting more than its allocated bandwidth, remaining unused available bandwidth of another class could be borrowed to exceeds the limit of maximum bandwidth, because traffic compensation per user and application is provided.
  • L7 Filtering
    • Selective control according to filename, extension, size, and URL
    • Classifies & controls all traffic using port 80 besides web-traffic
    • Worm Viruses filtering(Nimda, CodeRed, Slammer, etc.)
    • DoS(Denial of Service) attact blocking & auto packet filtering(configured to drop packet from particular IP and Port)
  • Scheduling
QoS scheduling offers auto-deploying function of QoS policy according to pre-configured time basis. (flexibly deployable un specifically designated time bases)
This function supports intelligent network management simplifying administrative task of policy networking.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Analysis per QoS class
This confirm if the configured QoS settings is working and guarantee important traffic through analysis of network traffic whilst burst traffic affects mission-critical services.
  • Real-time Monitoring & Packet Capture
This supports real-time monitoring for network usage status and applied QoS policy. Real-time traffic IP status, application usage status, and whole network packet status could be checked through packet capturing together with real-time graph and numerical data report.

  • Packet Capture per Level
All the packets is directly captured per level without any affect to network operation. All packets is saved per level, unnecessary small packet is classified and saved per protocol or the volume of packet is left without regard to protocol.
  • Creation of network traffic and QoS analysis report
Applied QoS policy could be used as feedback data through monitoring and analysis. Analyzed data and reports are provided to support SLA (Service Level Agreement).

System & Perfomance

  • Advanced Fail Over Function
The software and hardware malfunction monitoring function checks the system condition through a separate processor independent to the system enabling a continuous packet flow.
    - Power Off Mode : Bypass all packets when power is off
    - Passive Mode (Remote) : Bypass all packets physically or check the system and log by remote access.
    - Active Mode (No Policies) : Monitor packets in the system but pass all without applying QoS policy
    - Active Mode (With Policies) : Process packets in the system with applying QoS policy.
  • Traffic distribution using a secondary line
This disperses traffic per port that each application uses according to importance and its characteristic using secondary line (ADSL, cable modem and leased line) and obtains bandwidth increase effect at a low cost by combining ADSL or cable modem with leased line. For example, if we set leased line for main line and ADSL for auxiliary line, we can have traffic related web, FTP and streaming processed by ADSL and mission critical services by leased line for stable network service.
  • Line backup using secondary line
It maintains network-based mission-critical service without interruption by configuring main line and secondary if one line is inactive, another active line can take over and maintain connection.
  • Traffic distribution and line backup using secondary line
It disperses traffic and expands bandwidth using secondary line (ADSL, cable modem and leased line). When main line is inactive, with line dualization composition that is maintained by secondary line, a continuous network operation could be constructed.
  • Hardware dualization
This is designs to be a reliable network operation through hardware dualization composition by supporting MESH-structure network environment if any hardware problem occurs.
